Several of UNP guided initiatives are mentoring programs for West Salt Lake school children. Students in the University of Utah’s LEAP Program (a freshman cohort program that seeks to build student retention from freshman year through graduation) tutor and mentor at a West High School after school program. LEAP peer advisors also work with Northwest Middle School ESL students and instructors. A group of sixth grade Latina students from Bachman Elementary team up with their mothers and University of Utah students to develop life-skills, and provide training, mentoring, and academic support.
