Gina Alvarez , Development Officer

Gina Alvarez is Development Officer for University Neighborhood Partners where she brings both professional and personal experience to the position. Before joining UNP, she served as Development Associate for Catholic Community Services of Utah. She moved to Salt Lake City in August 2004 from San Francisco where she worked for the Glide Foundation. Gina is a first generation U.S. born member of her family and was a first generation college student. She was raised along the San Diego / Tijuana border and actually attended 6th grade in Michoacan, Mexico because her parents wanted her to stay connected to her family roots. Her initial draw to UNP resulted from UNP’s focus towards fostering a college going awareness and expectation for many of the first generation U.S. born and first generation potential college students residing in the west Salt Lake neighborhoods UNP serves. Gina had not even considered college as an option until she was in 10th grade and sees promise in UNP’s collaborations that introduce awareness at younger ages for students and their families. Gina serves on the Board of Planned Parenthood Association of Utah advocating for health care, education and supporting reproductive rights. Gina lives in Salt Lake City’s west side.

Betty Moffett, MBA,

Administrative

Financial Officer
Betty enjoys working for the University Neighborhood Partners. As a Hispanic woman she has had many obstacles to overcome to get her education. Betty managed to work full-time while attending college part-time in pursuit of her educational goals. After several years of long hours and hard work she eventually received her degree from the University of Utah with a Bachelor of Spanish Languages and Literature with a minor in Business Administration. Betty believes in the importance of higher education, thus, went on to complete her Master of Business Administration from the University of Phoenix in 2006. Betty's passion is higher education and strongly believes in the mission of UNP. “Completing my MBA has been the greatest accomplishment in my life, with the support and understanding from my husband, Dan, and my teachers, I was able to stay focused on my goal. I strongly believe in the importance of having parents, family, and friends to encourage and support a person through college because it's a tough journey. Parents; please encourage, support and participate in your child’s education. It won't be easy, but giving your children support in any way you can will greatly increase their chances to one day graduate from college. My message to the kids is, stay in school, get to college anyway you can and be persistent because education is the key to a better life. It does not matter where you are from or what language you speak. I did it and so can you!!!” b.moffett@partners.utah.edu
