ADVISORY BOARD

Administration:
University Neighborhood Partners is organized through the Office of the President of the University of Utah, fitting with the Presidential priority on community involvement. A Special Assistant to the President for Campus-Community Partnerships functions as the Director of UNP, and reports directly to the President. UNP also works closely with the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dave Pershing, the Senior Vice President for Health Sciences, A. Lorris Betz, and the Vice President of Institutional Advancement, Fred Esplin. 

Board of Advisors: Additional guidance comes through a 30-member Board of Advisors. This group meets quarterly, with four committees that meet more frequently. The group is composed of 10 U of U representatives, 10 community leaders who live or work in west Salt Lake neighborhoods, and ten neighborhood residents. It is co-chaired by Joyce P. Valdez, Community Liaison for the Salt Lake City Mayor's Office and Fred Esplin, U of U Vice President for Institutional Advancement. Board members serve two year terms, with opportunity for reappointment. UNP welcomes anyone interested in serving on the Board to contact the Board co-chairs, the UNP Director or Andrea Page a.page@partners.utah.edu

Committees:
The three committees board members serve on Include the following:

Executive Committee: 

  • Membership - Board co-chairs and chairs of UNP Advisory Board committees.
  • Responsible for supporting the UNP director and staff with Board and organizational structures.
  • Selection of Annual Bridge Builder Award.  Scholarship selection for the Wolf Scholarship, Pathfinders, and coordinating with the Alumni Association for the UNP/Alumni Scholarship. 
  • Assists with UNP special events (CommUnity Day). 

 YES Committee:

  • Membership- includes Board and additional partners
  • Responsible for advising the Youth, Education and Success partnerships and the YES Seed Grants and guiding evaluation of YES partnerships.

Partnership Seed Grant Committee: (previously the Initiatives Committee)

  • Membership - includes Advisory Board members (and additional partners as appropriate).
  • Responsible for process and selection of UNP seed     grant opportunities (excluding YES seed grants).  *Examples - SLCC/U of U Seed Grant, partnership seed grants.
